There are many tree branches other than cedar that are also toxic for chins to chew. A list of those that are okay for chins are as follows:
1) Apple 2) Arbutus 3) Ash 4) Aspen 5) Beech 6) Birch 7) Cottonwood 8) Crabapple 9) Dogwood 10) Elm 11) Fir 12) Hawthorn 13) Larch 14) Magnolia 15) Mulberry 16) Pine 17) Pear 18) Poplar 19) Sequoia (Redwood) 20) Willow
Not to Use: Apricot Cherry Peach Prune Plum Nectarine
The reason for not using these tree branches are because they are the prunus species and contain cyanogenic glycosides. When your chinny digests anything from these, the wood will release cyanide. The above information came from Gillian Willis in Vancouver, B.C. Gillian is a toxicologist and an exotic bird owner.
